Summary:

This thesis explores the online projected and perceived images of a destination, assessing their correspondence and stressing the differential points of online image formation. For this purpose, online image sources (travel blogs and reviews and oficial tourism websites) are analysed. This thesis aims to shed light on the role of online user generated content and user transmitted image in the destination image formation process and emphasize the capacity of image dissemination they have.  Finally, it is our aim to analyse the complex image identity issues in the contested territory of Catalonia.

Summary:

The objective of this search is the definition of the basic pattern of second homes landscapes. The Landscape Ecology provides with some different metrics for the landscape study. Especially the space metrics analyses the urban landscape as well as the evolution of land use.

The partial planning documents are the starting point of the design of the spatial metrics and functional models for the configuration and composition of the second home landscape.

This method is applied to a mature tourism destination in the Mediterranean where additional urban pieces, dedicated to a temporal residence, created a continuous second home landscape with singular urban dynamics. The analysis of the evolution ofthis space from the 60′s allows to look  at this space like something complex as landscape.

The results of these study go from the evolution of the second home space to the modeling second home landscape in the central Costa Daurada, in Catalonia. Results confirm the evolution and transformation of landscape, from the second home developments but create holidayscape to a landscape to a conventional city landscape.

This thesis focuses on tourist mapping as a tool of destinations’ official web marketing that may reinforce the functional and graphic aspects of the website. The dual character of interactive maps as is highlighted: they comprise access interfaces to information facilitating the website navigation during trip planning online and, on the other hand, are the visual images conveying the identity of the destination.
