Joan Alberich González is Doctor in Geography by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2007) and graduate in Methods and Techniques for the Study of Population (2001). Currently he is lecturer teacher in the Department of Geography of the URV, and he was formerly a researcher at the Center for Demographic Studies (CED 2001-2007) and the Institute of Regional and Metropolitan Studies (IERMB, 2007). 

His main areas of research are the geography of the population: commuting, daily mobility, use of space, internal migration and population projections. He published a number of articles on these topics in specialized journals and is the author of the blog «Población, movilidad y dinámicas urbanas» on the internet. 

Outside of academia, he conducted research on the history of rail in Spain and is a regular contributor to the Railway Museum of Catalonia and the Revista de Historia Ferroviaria.
